Unpaid Internships

About The Brewster Clipper

The Brewster Clipper is a fresh, local startup dedicated to capturing the pulse of Brewster. As a grassroots news organization, we aim to bridge the gap between traditional journalism and modern digital storytelling. We are looking for a motivated, curious, and community-minded intern to help us build our voice from the ground up during a focused three-month term.

The Role

As a News Reporter Intern, you won’t just be getting coffee—you’ll be on the front lines of local journalism. You will hunt for stories, interview residents, and cover the events that matter to our neighbors. This is a hands-on opportunity to build a professional portfolio while helping a new publication find its footing in the Brewster community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hyper-Local Coverage: Pitch and write 2–3 stories per week, ranging from town hall meetings to profiles on local businesses.
  • Field Reporting: Attend community events, festivals, and local games to capture the heart of Brewster.
  • Multimedia Content: Take high-quality photos and short-form video clips to accompany digital articles.
  • Fact-Checking: Ensure all reporting is accurate, fair, and follows AP Style guidelines.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong Writing Skills: A knack for clear, concise storytelling and a solid grasp of grammar.
  • Curiosity: A genuine interest in the people, history, and daily life of Brewster.
  • Self-Starters: Since we are a startup, we value interns who can work independently and aren't afraid to ask "Why?"
  • Reliability: Access to dependable transportation for local travel within Brewster.

Internship Perks

  • Bylines: Get published frequently and build a robust digital portfolio to kickstart your career.
  • Professional References: Show us you’ve got talent and a strong work ethic, and we will provide a glowing professional reference to help you land your next role.
  • Mentorship: Work directly with the founding editors to hone your investigative and editorial skills.
  • Flexibility: We offer a hybrid schedule that respects your other commitments.
Note: This is an unpaid internship intended for students or early-career journalists seeking experience and professional development.
